State Senator Mary Felzkowski
TOMAHAWK, WI (WSAU) — State Senator Mary Felzkowski says she’s staying put for now.
The 12th District Republican and President of the chamber says she will not run for Governor or other higher office, saying she considered the move but feels the best place for her is her current position, releasing the following statement:
After months of thought, prayer, and discussions with my husband, I have decided to not seek higher office. This is not the right time for my family, and besides, I love representing my constituents in Madison as a State Senator. There’s a lot of work still to be done in Wisconsin, and I look forward to continuing to fight for a brighter future in our state.
I am truly grateful for all those who have reached out with words of encouragement and support over the last several months, and I make this decision knowing that the Northwoods will continue to have strong representation in both Washington, D.C., and Madison.
Felzkowski, who has served the Northwoods in Madison since 2012, had been named as a potential Republican candidate for Governor. Two Republicans are already in the race: Congressman Tom Tiffany and Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann. Meaning a primary will be held in August, if both remain in the field.
