WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Five Wausau Alders who have announced their intent to run again in 2026 have qualified for the April 7th ballot, according to the city clerk’s candidate tracker page.
Lou Larson, Sarah Watson, Lisa Rasmussen, Terry Kilian, and Michael Martens have met the ballot qualifications as of December 22nd. They will appear on the ballot, and as it stands, none of the five will be opposed.
No other residents have taken out paperwork to run in those districts, making “unopposed” the current theme of the upcoming election. If the nominating period ended today, just two of the city’s 11 districts would have a contested race.
Those are in Districts 4 and 11. In District 4, Tom Neal has submitted his paperwork with 20 signatures. Once they are verified, his place on the ballot will be confirmed. A challenger, Police and Fire Commissioner Vylius Leskys, has also submitted paperwork with 32 signatures.
District 11 is an open seat, as Chad Henke has announced his resignation at the start of the candidate filing period. One challenger has already confirmed his place on the ballot, Bruce Trueblood. A second, Timothy Howe, has filed candidacy but has yet to return his nominating petition.
