Michael Vandenbergh
WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — A man accused of setting fire to a house in Wisconsin Rapids was bound over for trial on Tuesday.
Michael Vandenbergh faced a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, where a judge found probable cause for one count of arson. The 30-year-old is accused of dousing the front porch of the home with an accelerant, then lighting the fire and walking away.
The post-incident report, completed in early December, indicates that the fire was not caused by an electrical issue. Security camera footage from the neighborhood showed a person matching Vandenbergh’s description in the area.

He also faces three counts of attempted homicide. Three people were inside the home at the time of the blaze, but they managed to escape unharmed. Investigators say they were known to Vandenbergh.
He has not entered a plea to the charges; that’s expected to happen on February 9th. He is being held in the Wood County jail on a $1 million bond.
