WESTON, WI (WSAU) – A teenage driver is facing homicide charges in connection with a fatal crash last summer in Weston.
Prosecutors say Aliya Mae James, 19, had drugs in her system when she crashed into another vehicle on Camp Phillips Road, killing an 86-year-old man. The victim died after being transported to Aspirus Hospital in Wausau.
A traffic reconstruction team estimates that James was traveling at 70-miles-per-hour in a 35 zone.
James denied drinking at the time of the crash. Police found THC cartridges in her vehicle. She tested positive for amphetamine and cannabis. She is charged with vehicular homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle. She is now free on $10,000 bond. She could face 60-years in jail if convicted on all charges.
Her next court appearance is February 3rd.
