MERRILL, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Fire destroyed a home near Merrill on Monday.
The Pine River Fire Department responded to an initial call at 5:21 AM for a report of smoke in the kitchen. Crews investigated, but didn’t find any issues. The initial investigation included the use of thermal imaging cameras, according to WAOW TV
They were called back to the scene at about 9:15 AM to find flames coming from one corner of the building. The second response quickly grew to include mutual aid requests from other departments, including Hweitt, Texas, Merrill, and Russell. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Highway Department also responded.
Investigators say the fire spread to the attic of the home, which has been declared a total loss.
The Salvation Army is assisting the affected family.
