WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A total of six City Council candidates have completed their paperwork for Wausau’s 2024 Spring Election: (20 signatures required to be placed on the ballot)
District 1- Incumbent Carol Lukens has filed candidacy, but has yet to return her paperwork.
District 2- Incumbent Michael Martens has completed his paperwork, returning 24 signatures.
District 3- Tom Kilian has filed non-candidacy. Residents William Harris and Terry Kilian have filed candidacy. Terry Kilian has returned 37 signatures, paperwork is complete.
District 4- Incumbent Doug Diny’s status is pending. Residents Tom Neal and Debra Weiss have filed candidacy. Neal, a former District 4 Alder, has returned 20 signatures, paperwork is complete.
District 5- Incumbent Gary Gisselman has filed candidacy and returned 26 signatures. Paperwork complete.
District 6- Incumbent Becky McElhaney has filed candidacy.
District 7- Incumbent Lisa Rasmussen has filed candidacy.
District 8- Incumbent Sarah Watson has filed candidacy.
District 9- Incumbent Dawn Herbst has filed candidacy. Resident Victoria Tierney has also filed candidacy and returned 27 signatures. Her paperwork is complete
District 10- Incumbent Lou Larson has filed candidacy.
District 11- Chad Henke has filed candidacy and returned 27 signatures. Paperwork complete.
Three candidates are in the process of submitting their paperwork for the Mayor’s seat- Incumbent Katie Rosenberg and current District 4 Alder Doug Diny. A third resident is also circulating papers. A total of 200 signatures are required for the Mayor’s position
Diny has not officially filed non-candidacy for his seat on the Council. The deadline for that is December 22nd.
Municipal Judge Mark Sauer has also filed his candidacy papers to run for another term in that position. No other residents have filed to oppose him.
All candidate paperwork must be returned to the City Clerk’s office by early January. Primaries, if needed, will be contested in February. Spring Election Day is April 2nd.
