GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Green Bay Packers solidified their defensive line on Saturday afternoon by selecting former Texas pass rusher Barryn Sorrell in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Sorrell was invited to the 2025 Reese’s Senior Bowl in January after playing in six games for the Longhorns in 2024 and registering 12 total tackles, 4.5 for loss, and 2.5 sacks. With a 4.6 high school GPA, he excelled academically and continued his academic habits in college, making the Academic All-Big 12 First Team in 2023 after placing second in 2022.
The Packers were in need of more pass rusher depth, and Sorrell will give defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley a versatile, high-motor player with lots of high-level experience against tough opponents in the SEC and Big 12. Scouts at NFL Draft Buzz note that if Sorrell can work on his quickness and tackling consistency, he has the tools to be a long-term starter in the NFL.
