PHILLIPS, WI (WSAU) — A part-time officer in the Phillips Police Department is accused of meeting a known drug user for sex while working.
Officers say Connor R. Newman had repeated encounters with the woman at her home, then made false entries into his logbook to cover it up.
Court documents claim Newman made multiple visits to the home of the “known meth user” last summer, including incidents where he would turn off his GPS tracker. The situation escalated on August 1st when Newman failed to respond to a radio call, prompting officers to conduct a well-being check at the woman’s home.
Investigators say he admitted to having sex with the woman while on the clock. He now faces three felony counts of misconduct in office and a misdemeanor charge of obstructing an officer.
Court records show the 31-year-old made an initial appearance on Tuesday and remains free on a $1,000 signature bond. Further court action is scheduled for November 24th.
Newman faces 10.5 years in prison if found guilty on the felony counts. He has not entered a plea to the charges.
