RIB MOUNTAIN, WI (WAOW-WSAU) – From Washington, D.C. to north-central Wisconsin, more than 2,700 ‘No Kings’ protests took place across the country, Saturday. People on their way to shopping and other Saturday errands couldn’t miss the many people along Rib Mountain Drive as they held signs and spoke out against the Trump administration, which organizers describe as “chaos, corruption, and cruelty.”
As it was in June, when the first ‘No Kings’ protests took place, protesters gathered for the Wausau area’s demonstration between Starling and Parrot Lanes. An official with the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office tells 9 News that there were no serious incidents of violence or arrests associated with the Rib Mountain protest. They also say a traffic accident occurred in the area during the afternoon; however, it was not related to the demonstration.
Nationwide, an estimated 8 million people took to the streets in cities big and small. The protests were peaceful, with police in New York and Portland reporting no arrests. A few Trump supporters were arrested while trying to stop the protests with a woman in South Carolina taken into custody for brandishing a gun.
The protests were in response to what many view as the Trump administration destroying the fabric of our constitutional rights on speech, due process, and civil rights.
