STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – A child care provider in Stevens Point has been charged with physical reckless abuse of a child.
On November 19, Stevens Point police spoke with a mother who said her three-year-old daughter told her “Miss Julia” hurt her head on a cot, and that the mom could feel a bump. The mother told police that there were previous occasions when the child told her that this person had hurt her, but she had not previously noticed other injuries.
An officer watched security footage and reported seeing a care provider pick up a child even with her shoulders and “forcefully throwing (the victim) in a downward motion towards her cot”, adding that the child’s head struck the outer edge of the cot.
After watching the video, the officer talked to the child’s parents who say they were told by a doctor that the child possibly had a concussion. The officer also noted multiple bruises on the child’s arms which he believed may have been the result of the defendant’s actions.
Julia Andres, 23, was charged on Nov. 21 and was given a $20,000 signature bond, with conditions.
She is scheduled for an initial appearance in court on December 29.
