GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) — The Green Bay Packers’ lone Pro Bowl starter will not play in the flag football showcase due to injury.
Micah Parsons was named one of 11 defensive starters for the NFC. According to a release from the Packers, Parsons is tied for No. 5 in the NFL in sacks this season (12.5) and is the only NFL player since 1982 with 12-plus sacks in each of his first five seasons (2021-25). He is tied for No. 1 in the league this season in sacks in the fourth quarter/overtime (eight). Parsons also ranks in the top five of the NFL in Next Gen Stats QB pressures (83, No. 1), NGS pressure rate (21.3 pct., No. 2) and QB hits (26, tied for No. 5). Parsons’ 83 pressures are the most by a Packer in a single season (73 by LB Za’Darius Smith in 2019 was the previous high).
Pressures were first tracked by NGS in 2016.
Parsons becomes the first player named to the Pro Bowl in each of his first five seasons since former Rams DE Aaron Donald. While Parsons won’t play in the showcase as he recovers from a torn ACL suffered in Week 15, the honor will trigger contract bonuses and other incentives.
Aiden Hutchinson of the Detroit Lions was named the other starter at Defensive End. Seattle’s Demarcus Lawrence was named as a reserve and will be elevated to a starter to replace Parsons.
The league announced the starters and reserves on Tuesday. Additional players may be named in late January to replace those who will play in Super Bowl LX in Santa Clara, CA, on February 8th.
The Pro Bowl Games will take place in the San Francisco Bay Area from January 29th to February 1st.
