Wisconsin Badgers
MADISON, WI (WSAU) — A four-goal outburst in the final 20 minutes lifted the Wisconsin women’s hockey team to a 5-1 victory over Minnesota State, Mankato on Friday.
Charlotte Pieckenhagen gave Wisconsin a 1-0 lead after one. The Mavericks battled back to tie the game after 40 minutes.
Wisconsin’s 3rd period scoring streak began just 90 seconds into the frame when Ava Murphy scored an even-strength goal. Wisconsin then took advantage of back-to-back power plays with Laney Potter and Cassie Hall scoring. Nela Lopusanova added the 5th with about five minutes to go.
Ava McNaughton made 18 saves in goal.
It’s the first conference win of the season for the Badgers after they were swept at Ohio State last weekend in a rematch of last year’s National Championship game. Wisconsin is now 5-2 on the season; game two of the series between the Badgers and the Mavs is this afternoon.
