Nov 04 (Field Level Media) – The Baltimore Ravens are working on a deal to acquire veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett from the Arizona Cardinals, ESPN reported Wednesday.
The trade is expected to be finalized by the weekend, per the report, meaning Brissett would not join the Ravens in time for their Thursday night home game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Brissett, 33, has played for six NFL franchises over 11 seasons. He is in his second season with the Cardinals and has started 20 of his 22 appearances, holding a 4-16 record.
First-year coach Mike LaFleur benched Brissett on Sunday with the Cardinals trailing the Dallas Cowboys 17-3. He was replaced by Gardner Minshew, who rallied the team to a 33-30 win in overtime.
LaFleur announced Monday that Minshew would start this weekend against the Seattle Seahawks, with rookie Carson Beck backing him up. Brissett was moved to the No. 3 emergency QB role for Arizona (3-5).
One week ago, the Ravens finally had a healthy quarterback room with two-time league MVP Lamar Jackson returning from an ankle injury that caused him to miss three games.
But during Sunday’s 36-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills, Jackson suffered a serious right thumb injury on Baltimore’s first offensive play. Backup Tyler Huntley left the game in the second quarter with a right foot injury, and ESPN reported Monday that Huntley will miss the rest of the season due to turf toe.
The Ravens (4-4) announced earlier this week that Jackson needed surgery and would be placed on injured reserve. It is possible he could miss the remainder of the season.
Undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano relieved Huntley and sustained an injury to his right ankle before finishing the game for the Ravens (4-4). He wore a brace on his right ankle during Tuesday’s practice, and head coach Jesse Minter later declared that Fagnano will make his first career NFL start in the Thursday game against the visiting Jaguars (5-2).
Signed to a two-year, $5 million contract with up to $6 million in incentives, Huntley has spent six of his seven NFL seasons with the Ravens, who first signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2020.
The Miami Dolphins claimed him off the Ravens’ practice squad in 2024, and he re-signed with the Ravens in 2025.
Huntley, 28, has thrown for 727 yards with four touchdowns and one interception in five games (three starts) this season. He’s also rushed for 76 yards and a score.
A Pro Bowl selection in 2022, Huntley has appeared in 35 games (19 starts), completing 66.7% of his passes for 3,939 yards, 17 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He has six rushing touchdowns and 871 yards on the ground.
The Ravens signed Austin Reed to the practice squad on Monday and inked fellow quarterback Kedon Slovis off the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad on Tuesday to round out a depth chart dented by multiple injuries.
