BEIJING, Dec 19 (Reuters) – China’s military will step up training and “take forceful measures to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” its defence ministry said on Friday in response to a planned $11.1 billion U.S. arms sales package to Taiwan.
The ministry urges the U.S. to “immediately cease arms sales to Taiwan” and “concretely abide by its commitment not to support ‘Taiwan independence’ forces,” according to a statement the ministry released on its Chinese social media account.
“Taiwan separatist forces… are using the hard-earned money of ordinary people to fatten U.S. arms dealers,” the statement added.
