MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – One person is in custody after an overnight police standoff in Marshfield led to a neighborhood lockdown.
WAOW TV reports that officers were called at about 7:30 PM for a report of a shooting near a home on South Oak Avenue. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Brian Velez-Rodriguez, refused to surrender, and a crisis negotiation team was called in.
Surrounding homes were put on lockdown, and South Oake Avenue was closed off between 8th and 14th Streets.
The standoff continued for several hours, with Velez-Rodriguez surrendering at about 2:00 AM Wednesday. The lockdown was lifted shortly thereafter.
Velez-Rodriguez is facing possible charges for disorderly conduct, felon in possession of a firearm, resisting an officer, and 1st-degree reckless endangering safety. Court action against him is pending.
